How the app keeps it safe
SpareShare exists so people can find and share food safely. The rules below are the ones the app itself enforces — not a promise we hope to keep. If something here is not what you are seeing in the app, please report it.
Public sees approximations only
The public map shows a blurred position, worked out on our server from the exact one you gave us. The exact spot is never sent to a public screen — not in the list, not in the page source.
Exact addresses need verification
Exact locations are visible only to volunteers whose application an admin has approved, and only for entries that have been approved. Anyone can apply; nobody gets the role automatically.
A person reviews every entry
Hotspots and food offers arrive as pending and stay hidden from the public map until an admin approves them. Nothing publishes on its own.
Reports go to the same queue
“Report this entry” on any hotspot or offer lands in front of the same admins, marked distinctly and placed at the top. Entries are flagged and explained, never quietly vanished.
Marking is rate limited
Five marks an hour and twenty a day, counted on the server so the limit cannot be stepped around. It keeps the map useful rather than noisy.
Photos are private, and stripped
Uploaded photos are stored privately with the camera's embedded location removed, and are readable only by you, verified volunteers and admins — never on the public map.
No money, ever
SpareShare moves food, time and location information. There is no payment, no fee and no purchase anywhere in the app, so nobody can be asked for card details.
You can delete your account
In My activity, Delete my account removes your sign-in, roles, volunteer application, device registrations and photos. What you submitted stays as a food-safety record, but with your name, notes, photos and exact position taken off it.
If something feels wrong
Don't go somewhere that doesn't feel safe, and don't accept or handle food you wouldn't eat yourself. Use “Report this entry” and an admin will look at it — the entry stays flagged until it is resolved.
